"The future of our children, the future of our planet is in our hand. That's why energy matters
There are different types of energy resources. They go into
two groups, which are Non-renewable and Renewable. NON-RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES (fossil fuels) Once are consumed, they cannot be replaced while, RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES (Alternative Sources) can be used again and again
Oil, coal and natural gas are NON-RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES (fossil fuels). Oil is formed deep under the ground. It is used for making petrol, plastic and tar. It is also used for generating electricity. Unfortunately, oil ,like all fossil fuels, is finite. It causes too much pollution and harms the environment. Moreover, drilling for oil causes destruction to animals' natural habitat. As a result, it is very important for governments to invest new technologies to provide energy
What is ALTERNATIVE ENERGY? Alternative energy is power that comes from sources which are not going to run out, do not pollute as much as fossil fuels. Electric energy that is generated from the sun (solar), the wind, the ocean (waves, currents or tides) is considered renewable energy
Solar Power is available at no cost, and will be available to generate energy tomorrow and for millions of years to come. Wind Power is used to generate electricity. These days, very large wind farms provide an efficient amount of electricity. Wave Power is as well used to generate electricity. Turbines under water are utilised to make use of the power of water current. The farming industry, among other industries, is using corn and other plants as a biomass alternative energy source that can be put into the gas tanks of cars and trucks to replace earthdamaging fossil fuels
There are so many advantages of alternative energy. Alternative energy sources are renewable. They are non toxic. This means that they do not emit harmful chemicals into the atmosphere. Alternative energy sources are available everywhere and can be put to use at any location. They are sustainable sources of energy. These sources of energy do not cause pollution. These sources reduce the dependence on oil or coal for the energy needs
On the other hand, there are some demerits of alternative sources of energy The production of alternative sources of energy is expensive in the beginning. It is difficult to make a lot of energy in a short period of time. Wind turbines cause noise pollution and may even kill or injure birds. Wave machines could be dangerous for ships and fish. They also put tourists off. Solar power cannot be collected at night or when it cloudy
Finally, with a number of advantages, alternative sources of energy can be used to meet the growing needs of energy across the world
