Horses are beautiful animals. They have different colours and can run quickly. People like to watch horses because they are strong. Young horses are called foals. A baby girl horse is called a filly, and a baby boy horse is called a colt. After 4 years, a horse became an adult. Many people think a pony is a young horse, but that is not true. A pony is a kind of horse that does not grow very large.
Horses can live up to 20 or 25 years. Sometimes people can tell how old a horse is by looking at its teeth! Horses only need about three hours of sleep per day! Horse hooves are like our fingernails, which need to be clipped. For food, horses eat grass, corn, apples, and carrots. They sleep standing up, so they can run away quickly if a wild animal comes near or when they feel danger. They are herbivores, meaning they only eat plants. Their stomachs are small, so they need small feedings.
